HEAD COACH
SHANE MANLEY

Shane Manley’s martial arts journey began in 2011 when he started training several disciplines, including jiu jitsu, muay thai/kickboxing and wrestling. He held an amateur record of 5-1 and was the number three ranked lightweight in the northeast. Prior to that, he wrestled in high school and college (2008-2010) and started boxing in his late teens. His commitment and skill in martial arts led to many accomplishments:
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt under professor Eddie Avelar.
IBJJF 2023 Gi Pan American Master 1 Brown Belt Champion
IBJJF 2022 No Gi World Master 1 Brown Belt Champion
IBJJF 2022 No Gi Pan American Master 1 Brown Belt Champion
IBJJF 2015 No Gi Pan American Adult Purple Belt Runner Up
In addition to jiu jitsu, Shane participated in MMA for many years. With a combined record of 10-5, he is a Bellator MMA veteran and has been the main event card for Cage Fury Fighting Championships and Ring of Combat. He was an American Fighting Alliance (AFA) featherweight MMA champion and held an amateaur Kickboxing/MuThai record of 3-1-1 (2011-2014), and an amateaur boxing record of 3-1 (2011).
Shane Manley began his coaching career in 2015 shortly after receiving his purple belt. He started coaching a club in a fitness studio on a 10×10 wrestling mat. His club, formerly Supermanley Jiu Jitsu, has grown and won two team medals from Grappling Industries (2019 and 2021). Shane also spent several years volunteering, coaching wrestling at Lafayette Junior and Senior High, which is where he graduated from in 2006. He is passionate about helping the youth of Syracuse city and has spent a lot of time running after school programs for Fight For Hearts, which is a non-profit organization that provides youth activity services for those ages six-seventeen.
On May 15th, 2022, Shane was shot in the stomach while working security on University Hill. This tragic incident was the catalyst for Bulletproof Jiu Jitsu & Combat. After two life-saving surgeries and a one week hospital stay, he made a miraculous recovery. Four months after being shot, he won a gold medal at the IBJJF Pan American Games. Six months after the incident, he won a gold medal at the IBJJF World Championships. Shane credits his excellent physical conditioning, mental toughness, and his determination to win for such a speedy recovery. On May 15th, 2023, exactly one year after the shooting, Bulletproof Jiu Jitsu & Combat opened its doors. His main goal is to be a role model for youth and adults. Through every class taught, he hopes to instill a clear message to his students: never put limitations on yourself, lead by example, set your standards high, and, most importantly, keep moving forward no matter what life throws at you.
